HORIZN BER CITY honoured with ICONIC AWARDS 2024

The design and communication concept for the HORIZN BER CITY future district received an award as a winner project in the Innovative Architecture category at the ICONIC AWARDS 2024. This prestigious award is a great success for the collaborative process between acre – activ consult real estate – real estate marketing agency and the airport company in developing the brand identity and corporate design for HORIZN BER CITY. The airport company and the real estate marketing agency have developed a coherent and concise brand concept, from positioning, naming and branding to the implementation of various means of communication, that communicates the perspectives of the district (HORIZN) as well as its proximity to the airport (BER CITY). One particular challenge was to develop a key visual that reflects the vision and guiding principles of the neighbourhood without formulating it in detail and that deliberately leaves room for the future investors' own ideas and design options. The result is a flexible visual concept that offers space for creativity while clearly conveying the identity of the district.

The key visual was realized in collaboration with FOREAL Studio.

HORIZN BER CITY

The airport company plans to create the innovative, diverse and climate-friendly urban landscape of the HORIZN BER CITY future district within walking distance of Terminals 1 and 2. In the immediate neighbourhood of BER, an ecosystem for working, experiencing, feeling comfortable and being is to be created, a district in which hybrid uses will be established in a new, sustainable way of building and utilization. In September 2023, the district was presented to the public. The tendering procedure for Part 1, the first building block, is ongoing. The focus is on creativity and a diversity of ideas.

About the award

The ICONIC AWARDS: Innovative Architecture honours visionary urban planning, architecture, innovative interior and building technology products, and communication concepts from all areas of architecture, the construction and real estate industry, and the manufacturing industry. The prize is awarded by the German Design Council. The focus is on the holistic interplay of the trades in an architectural context.

The German Design Council was founded in 1953 by resolution of the German Bundestag and with the support of German industry to meet the growing need for information in the field of design. Today it is one of the world's leading centres of excellence for design communication and knowledge transfer. More than 330 of the most important German companies are among its benefactors.
